Manchester United Soccer Schools in Melbourne

The Manchester United Soccer Schools series of coaching programs in Melbourne received a superb response from both players and parents during the two weeks of training sessions in April 2007.

“...Fantastic. My son enjoyed every minute. Will definitely be back...”

“...this has been by far the most complete clinic that my son has attended…”

“...very professional...”

“...My son loved it...we’ll come again…”

After travelling to Australia from the UK to deliver the courses, the MUSS coaches delivered coaching sessions to local boys and girls aged between 10 – 16 years at two different venues in the region.

The first week at Kingston Heath was a resounding success and was followed by a second week of coaching activity taking place at the Darebin International Sports Centre in Thornbury.

The skills development program was designed to give all players the best possible chance to improve their individual skills and techniques and to reach their own level of potential. The coaching sessions were delivered to give the players the opportunity to develop their confidence on a football field using skills performed regularly by Manchester United first team stars such as Rooney and Ronaldo.

The coaches were also looking to develop the individuals attending the course, not only as stronger football players, but also as more determined and enthusiastic people. By following the MUSS Code of Conduct (Attitude, Behaviour, Communication, Discipline, Enthusiasm and Fair Play), as well as taking part in seminars about the importance of physical and mental game preparation and nutrition, each player attending the course was encouraged to develop their overall commitment to performing to the best of their ability.

Former Manchester United star Jesper Olsen, now based in Melbourne, was also present during the first week of the program to take part in the sessions, showing the skills that made him such an exciting player to watch during his career. He also took time to offer some invaluable advice to the youngsters based on his experiences at Old Trafford.

As an added feature to the Melbourne programs one player was selected at random to attend a week’s training program at one of the MUSS residential locations in the UK during the summer of 2007. Chris Frangou (13) and an accompanying guardian will have the trip of a lifetime when they fly to the UK and take part in a truly memorable football experience including daily coaching sessions, classroom seminars and a trip behind the scenes at Old Trafford.

With the first series of MUSS coaching programs now completed, the Head Coach during the sessions, Tony Byrne, has been delighted with the results.

“We knew that there was a huge number of young players throughout Australia playing soccer, but for us to experience the enthusiasm and commitment shown by the young players in Melbourne at first hand was tremendous.”

“All of our coaching staff have been delighted with how well the boys and girls responded to our coaching methods and philosophy, and we hope that our programs in Australia have encouraged the youngsters to practice and to truly motivate themselves to develop.”

The coaches also found time during their stay in Australia to work with other players in the Melbourne community. They were able to conduct some coaching sessions in schools and clubs in the area as well as giving the opportunity to some young players form the housing projects in the City of Yarra to learn some new skills and experience a piece of the Manchester United magic.

Manchester United Soccer Schools have always been committed to having a long term presence in various areas throughout the world, including Hong Kong, Dubai, Seattle and Toronto, and are now looking at the prospect of delivering further coaching programs in Australia. As soon as details become available this website will be updated, so keep checking in.
